Solomon Seasons 1

We have arrived and what a lovely welcome we got!!

We were so thankful that we had made the decision to fly out of Kelowna instead of driving down to Vancouver!

On the way to the Kelowna Airport we were held up for about ten minutes none the less as we had to wait for the fire department to douse the flames on a truck with brakes and tires on fire. (thank you Elden, for picking us up at 5.15 that morning).

We were slow leaving YVR as the plane with destination Los Angeles needed to be de-iced. Waiting for that and the process resulted in the aircrew getting past their allowed working hours. After take- off we were consequently diverted to the Seattle airport to await another crew…the long and the short of it was that our five hour layover time for LAX shrunk to an hour. Together with two other couples that hoped to get on the Fiji Airways flight as well we made a mad dash to terminal B, got our boarding pass, got through security and made it to the gate with ten minutes to spare.

The 10-1/2 hour flight was uneventful as was the transfer in Fiji. Unfortunately our two suitcases didn’t run as fast as us and are in transit somewhere. There aren’t really too many flights out this way and we don’t expect to see them before Saturday.

Margreet always packs along small quantities of essentials like milk powder, coffee,   granola, salt and pepper etc. She quickly had to change gears and buy some of those items on our way from the airport and others were supplied by our friends here – including flip flops for Henk and a pair of shorts. Margreet had packed her sandals and one dress in her backpack (learned that after our first trip to Chad when suitcases were delayed…)."

Wednesday morning:

We had supper with the director and his wife (Tim and Martha Matzke) catching up on our lives and going over the things that need doing in the next weeks. We slept well till about three this morning when a rooster decided to wake up and announce that fact to us all. The night was thankfully cool. Paul Unger set up the internet access this morning, so here we are.

Today we'll settle in (of course not having anything except our toothbrushes makes quick work of that:)) and start thinking how to tackle the recording studio.

  1. Glad you arrived safely. I am sitting at Amsterdam airport for about 7 hours. Luckely we booked into the Executive Lounge so it is very comportable. I should be in Kelowna by 7:30 tonight if all goes well. Enjoy your stay. Praying all will go well with your mission work.
